How could you fail to remember the instructional words of your husband, dear Mrs. Wife? You cannot afford to forget the generative utterance of the mouth of your husband. Your push into the mind of forgetfulness is a connotative disregard to the oracular afflatus of the Most High. The spirit of your forgetfulness is a goad of Satanism. The day you said, “I do,” to him is the day of his installation as the priest of your marital home. This is God’s protocol. There is, absolutely, nothing you can do about this, Mrs. Wife.                                                                                                                                                       He doubles as the head and the priest of the family.

Marriage is a covenant

Be wise, dear wife, and accord him all the support he needs. His instructions, his wants and vision earnestly need you to be his biggest fan and supporter. If you did not know these things concerning a husband then what are you doing in his life? If you had an awareness of this phenomenon regarding marriage and you decide to veer off the course of his words, you are nothing short of a Delilah and of course, the Jezebel come to disrupt the spiritual equilibration of the desideratum needed by this man to achieve his goals, as far as God is concerned.

Think Jesus, matrimonially.

Marriage is solely God’s institution, designed to enable the population of righteous offspring of humanity. The LORD God who created Adam, the male, is the same Creator who brought Adam, the female, into physical phenomenon. As far as God is concerned, the pristine duo had spiritual briefing of His existence. Each had been briefed separately on his or her conjugal role. God brought the female to the male to be introduced to him, the first occupant of Eden Garden, and to see what he had to say about that new creativity. The superintendency of the male Adam is underscored by the facticity of the female Adam being brought into the Eden, where Adam, the male, sat in occupation of it in his domination of the entire globe.

An affront to the ethics of divine protocol is not only unladylike; it is a total disregard to the physical presence of the Creator. You do not, as a matter of courtesy, welcome yourself into a home of the landlord, who is setting his eyes on you for the first time. The male Adam had to utter the words of welcome, not to the Creator who happens to be the true Owner, but the newly introduced entity, to whom was given the sobriquet, ‘Woman’.

It is, whether you like it or not, and without sounding chauvinistic, a man’s world.

No doubt, would it have been an affront to the protocol of the Creator’s institution if the Bible had recorded the introduced one as saying, “This is the bone of my bones and the flesh of my flesh, he shall be called man.” The aberrational push of the breath of those words were put in check by the briefing which the LORD God had etched into her psyche. The first set of the word ‘man’ that shows up in Genesis chapter 1 verse 26 to chapter 2:22 is hyponymically ‘Adam’. It comes out a total number of 11 times (Genesis 1:26, 27,2:5, –twice in 2:7–, 2:8, 15, 16, 18, 22; and 13 times if you add the two times Adam comes in chapter 2 verse 19. It is the Hebrew ‘âdâm (aw-dawm’): ‘ruddy, that is, a human being (an individual or the species, mankind, etc.).’ It (‘âdâm) comes from a root: âdam (aw-dam’): ‘to be red, red. To show blood (in the face), that is, flush or turn rosy.’

It was the responsibility of the man to name, being the head of the family. The authority found in verbal pronouncement lies with Adam, the male. He stands, dear wife, in authority before the Creator, even to His divine admiration. Mrs. Adam, how could you have forgotten the Divine briefing of the day of your making? As you walked the first ever walk side by side the Creator, did He not intimate you with the protocol to be observed in the home you were about to be ushered into? God did tell you that His word was with the man. That every utterance of authority concerning the marriage institution must proceed from the lips of the man: for he is the appointed priest of the Most High God in your home. Amen.

One flesh divided into two!

She should have accorded her husband her infamous serpentine discourse. It never occurred to her where she was plunging the entire human race when she thought within herself, “I’ve got this.” The tempter meant a wicked business! Unbeknown to the woman was a tsunami that had taken the innoxious form of a three minute’s foggy drizzle. It, she ominously thought, was just a harmless curiosity that hissed through fanciful fangs devoid of venom of paralysis. She took upon herself, the role that had no existence in the marital code of Eden –God’s home.

She spoke, unconstitutionally, without the authorisation from the authorised Adam. Words, before God, are so important that they must be brought before His adjudication. Armed with an idiotic confidence, unfortunately, she did not know that she was actually working against the will of God. What an ironic event! The one who was created to bait the enemy of God into incarceration is falling prey to a serpentine manipulation!

Conjugal Gist (8)

           adam & woman

   (…continued from the last post…)

*8*        The woman should never even imagine herself changing the husband to suit her own dream. It is an atypicality of God’s protocol -the Bible. One could as well picture the Church trying to change Jesus to suit a personal whim! Any possibility? Nothing but sheer hallucinatory venture. Wives, guard strongly against this Satanism. Two kings of Israel failed in their divine mandate to ‘dress and to keep’ the theocratic kingdom entrusted to them respectively. Solomon’s heart was drawn away from the LORD God, by his many idolatrous wives.

The Bible: God’s protocol.

With the sole aim of an establishment of Baalism, Princess Jezebel, her priestess, plunged King Ahab’s Judaism into total idolatry. The wives, who should be found in biblical submission, forced the husbands into marital subjugation thereby causing their failure to implement husbands’ mandatory ‘to dress and to keep’ of Genesis 2:15. The word ‘dress’ is‛âbad (aw-bad’): ‘to labour, work, serve another by labour.’ They failed to be conscientious workers in the Lord’s vineyard. They used the wrong sacerdotal personnel in worship of the Creator. This led to their irresponsibility in carrying out Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” ‘To guard, observe, give heed,’ defines the verb ‘keep,’ which is shâmar (shaw-mar’), in Hebrew.

Those kings left their kingdoms unprotected from alien plots. When a wife subtly attaches her own design, which does not complement her husband’s, she actually engenders her husband’s abdication of his spiritual responsibility.

The wife is the builder of the marital home. Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands” [Proverbs 14:1]. The word ‘wise’ is the Hebraic chokmôth or chakmôth (khok-moth’) ‘wisdom in all its collateral forms: prudence (in ethical & religious affairs), skill (in war & in administration), and shrewdness.’ Impoverishment: spiritually, mentally, economically or otherwise of the marriage is what to expect the foolish ‘ishshâh (wife) to bring onto her husband, for failing to be a good help meet for him.

“Thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God” (Ruth 1:16).

Three types of ‘woman’ appears in Hebraic Bible: neqêbâh, na‛ărâh and ‘ishshâh. Na‛ărâh (nah-ar-aw’) is: ‘a girl (from infancy to adolescence), a female servant.’ Neqêbâh (nek-ay-baw’) means ‘female (from the sexual form);’ while ‘every woman,’‘ishshâh nâshı̂ym (Often unexpressed in English), meaning ‘woman [is the only form of woman expressive of adulter(ess)], therefore, wife.’ The woman of this verse,‘ishshâh (ish-shaw’), is the feminine of husband.

the body of christ

‘Buildeth,’ bânâh (baw-naw’) means ‘to build, rebuild, establish, cause to continue.’ It must be understood that the woman’s role of building is participatory, hence, must conform to the man’s specification. Remember that the husband is the ‘head’ which the Greek calls kephalē (kef-al-ay’) by definition, makes the man ‘the source or origin’ of that family. I am not being chauvinistic in my assertion that, “It’s a man’s world.” Every entity of the Homo sapiens emanates from a family, whose headship must be the male of the conjugal relationship, whether responsible or totally irresponsible. At his death, the woman takes over. ‘House,’ bayith (bah’-yith) is a masculine noun, meaning ‘a house (in the greatest variation of applications, especially family, home etc.’ Remember also that the wife, ‘ishshâh, speaks of a circle that protects the husband, ı̂ysh?

Jesus built the Church and took care of her

Now we come to the last definition, ‘plucketh it down,’ in this verse. It is hâras (haw-ras’) ‘to pull down or in pieces, break, destroy, utterly.’ This was exactly what Jezebel did. A good husband, who has the mind of Christ, should have made Jezebel to understand these things. The truth is that God knew that the destruction of His institution would be the objective of heathen nations married into Israel. In the 7th chapter of Deuteronomy in the 3rd verse, God told Moses to give this commandment, “Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.” Compare this with 1Corinthians 6:15.

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church

The man just cannot afford, as far as God’s protocol is concerned, not to love his wife. If you do not know how to forgive, use your wife to learn the act and art of forgiving. You cannot, spiritually speaking, afford to think ill of your wife; especially, as my Pastor will say, if she has given birth to your child. The shower of your love is all the assurance she needs to perform optimally in the conjugal venture. Give her the love tonic day and night.

It is an evil deed not to be able to provide for the family. “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel” [1Timothy 5:8]. What aggravates the severity of your worse state is the spiritual illumination available to you as a Christian.

Failure on the part of either couple to heed God’s marital injunction is a rebellious and stubborn act. 1Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.Praise the Lord!

Conjugal Gist (6)

*6*        If your husband forbids you from taking a paid job and he says to you, “Stay at home,” agree with him. You are a ‘help meet for him;’ do not forget. Believe this is the best way you can serve Jesus in his life. Do not see it as being caged like a zombie in his house. It is your home as well. You co-own it. And one stark reality….I mean….the scriptural truism about a wife is that her new conjugal life is tied to her husband’s. She is designed to do her husband’s bidding in realising his dream. This is the reason why you cannot marry a man whose dream you cannot live or do not understand.

Wicked angels married unwary daughters of men

Marriage is a serious business. God used it to trap Lucifer for a divine judgment in the Garden of Eden. Sacrificial lambs were killed to save the first couple all because the bride of Christ will be saved. The fruit of the womb that came from the demeritorious union of the fallen angels and women of the earth was sheer wickedness, intended not only to mock God’s institution, but to block the coming of the Lord Jesus by polluting the earth with satanic Frankenstein of half-angels, half-human freaks of mischief. God, in His own wisdom, had no choice but to annihilate the destructive plot against His bride.

There were probably over two million people on earth then. Eight obedient souls were saved, to bring God’s dream to pass. The head of that family was Noah, his name means ‘rest.’ In HIS Church God has found His rest. Jehovah did not think of any rest until He had created Adam and the woman, the first earthly Church: for with them, He knew His eternal Church had come into being. There were eight souls. Eight being the number of a new beginning, with the Church a new species of God’s people had come into being. They were preserved in an ark. The Hebraic word for ‘ark’ is tebah (tay-baw’): ‘a treasure box.’ It is for this treasure that the great Merchant, the LORD God, had to sell all He had to get the pearl (Matthew 13:46).

The good Shepherd is the Bridegroom

For the actuation of this conjugal gist Christ came to woo His Bride. Finding her unsuitable for celestial citizenry He had to succumb to the substitutionary, gory death of the cross of Calvary. He rose up for the rejuvenation of the holy bride. Eve’s evil deed was undone. Amen! He ascended to heaven, paving the way for our elevation above the angels of God’s celestial assizes. At His session, we were provided a seat at the right side of the Majesty. Today the bride of Jesus, the Church, is the mystical body of Him on earth. Jesus left His body on earth to engender His holy presence and worship. Amen!

As long as we remain on this earth the Antichrist cannot unleash his heinous dominance upon the world. We must be taken away first (2Thessalonians 2:7). Two captains cannot man a ship. The Church represents the Lord Jesus, the soon coming King of kings and the Lord of all lords; the Almighty. We are the new creation. This conjugal gist is what God kept the top most secret, shown not to any of the prophets of the Old Testament. Ephesians 3:3-5, How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, 4) Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) 5) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

To the Church it is given to reveal the mind of God. Ephesians 3:10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, and this is the mystery: Ephesians 5:31 & 32, For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32) This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Only the Church teaches the real truth: 1Timothy 3:15, But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

 Isaiah 40

The word ‘pillar’ is stulos (stoo’-los): ‘a post (“style”), that is, (figuratively) support.‘ It comes from στύω stuō (to stiffen; properly akin to the base of histēmi (his’-tay-mee): ‘to cause or make to stand, to place, put, set).’ What is ‘ground’? It is hedraiōma (hed-rah’-yo-mah): ‘a support, that is, (figuratively) basis.’ Hedraiōma is from a derivative of hedraios (hed-rah’-yos) a derivative of ἕζομαι hezomai (to sit); sedentary, that is, (by implication) immovable.’ ‘Truth’ is alētheia (al-ay’-thi-a) which means: ‘verity, by extension reality.’ Jesus is the truth, the reality of the Godhead. The Church, the bride of Jesus, is the only authorised institution to reveal the reality of the immovable, good news of salvation and the manifold wisdom of Jesus, the last Adam -the Saviour of mankind.

Conjugal Gist (5)

*5*           Why the failure in marriages? It is easily traced to two offences: unloving attitude (of the husband) and disobedience (on the part of the wife). A man cannot hide his money from his wife. Generosity marks the impresa of Jesus’ involvement with humanity. If you cannot put your life at peril for your wife’s sake, you cannot boast of your love for her. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” [John 15:13]. Jesus also says in John 10:11, “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.” “The emphasis,” as JFB Commentary puts it, “lies not on ‘friends,’ but on ‘laying down his life’ for them; that is, ‘One can show no greater regard for those dear to him than to give his life for them, and this is the love ye shall find in Me.'”

Commit your life to her pleasure: that is what Jesus did. Have regard for your wife. Try not to forget that she is a weaker vessel. Give your wife things. Do things for her pleasure. She is not your slave or your servant just because you paid money called bride price to her parents. She has equal standing with you before Almighty God. What if she has wilfully decided to make things worse for you, her husband? Forgive her: for she knows not what she is doing. Jesus forgave those who despitefully used and consequently murdered Him! Take the disobedient matter to Jesus, the Head of your spousal designation.

 Church Service

To the designated wife Jesus told, “Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you” [John 15:14]. Was it not to the disciples He made a solemn account of Matthew 16:18, “…..upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”? We understand as well, that when “….but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high” [Luke 24:49], came to its consummation it actually birthed God’s most guarded secret -the Church. The verb ‘command’ of John 15:14 is entellomai (en-tel’-lom-ahee) ‘to order, command to be done, enjoin.’ Listen, as a wife, to the man’s words. Just do them if you are a good representative of the Church. It will surprise many husbands to see themselves eternally under their earthly wives, in heaven, for having more crowns.

The LION of Judah and HIS Bride

One of the things your husband cannot do is the introduction of another deity worship. He cannot tell you not to go to Church. If he should tell you to act in a way that is antipodal to God’s express word, you have every right, before His Almightiness, to repudiate his instruction. He cannot tell you not to pray. He has no right to cheat on you by engaging in an illicit extramarital affairs. The Bible has a name for this act: adultery. It is idolatrous. For worshipping other gods God judged Israel in the Book of Jeremiah 3:6, The LORD said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.

Mary leaned on the dream of the Bridegroom

The word ‘backsliding’ is mshuwbah (mesh-oo-baw’) (or mshubah {mesh-oo-baw’}) meaning: ‘apostasy.’ Mshuwbah is a feminine noun: for every worshipper is a female before whom or what he or she bows in adoration. Zanah (zaw-naw’) is the active word for ‘played the harlot,’ meaning: ‘1. to commit adultery (usually of the female, and less often of simple fornication, rarely of involuntary ravishment) 2. (figuratively) to commit idolatry (the Jewish people being regarded as the spouse of Jehovah).’ To understand what went on under trees and on elevated places 2Kings 17:9-10 explains it. And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.10 And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree:

The man has the dream, and not the woman of the conjugal gist. Know his dream. If the dream is beneath you or the type you cannot be bothered with, then, do something. Please, refuse the nuptial knots! Allow not your involvement in its being tied! Let the friendship suffice. No more! This is the reason why I have always told spinsters, “Do not marry a stupid person. He’ll only rule your life in an egregious stupidity!” There probably may not be a perfect man, but I can tell you, “There’re a lot of good, Mr. Right if you ask Jesus. Amen!”

Conjugal Gist (4)

 (…continued from part three…)

*4*        Many times the wife thinks she can mould her husband to assume the shape of her dreams. How wrong can many women be? As a wife, the woman should know that she is blessed with two lords: her husband and, of course, Jesus. He is the perfect personification of what a husband should be. Did the wife create the man? Does she know the thoughts of his mind? 1Corinthians 11:8-10, For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. 9) Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. 10) For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.

The head of the family is the husband. The preposition ‘of’ in verse 9 is ek (ek) (or ex ex) ‘1. from (the point whence action or motion proceeds) 2. out (of place, time, or cause).’ The word ‘power’ is the Greek exousia (ex-ou-see’-ah) ‘1. Privilege 2. (subjectively) force, capacity, competency, freedom 3. (objectively) mastery (concretely, magistrate, superhuman, potentate, token of control), delegated influence.’ The wife only wields ‘a delegated authority,’ given to her by her husband. This is attested to by 1Corinthians 11:3, “But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God;” and the key word, ‘head’ is kephalē (kef-al-ay’) ‘from the primary word κάπτω kaptō (in the sense of seizing); the head (as the part most readily taken hold of), literally or figuratively; metaphorically (source or origin).’ The husband is the primary source of the wife, scripturally speaking.

A “Deeper Life Christian Church” member friend of mine teaches that the husband is like the President, and the wife actually, is the Prime Minister (of a parliamentary system of government) in the home. The husband, according to my friend’s understanding, is only the presidential figure head in the family. The wife is the executive power wielding Prime Minister! How can anybody teach this in the scriptural face of 1Corinthians 11:8-10? It is, whether anyone likes it or not, a man’s world, and this is not the thinking of chauvinism. Let the man run the family. Assist him spiritually. Jesus is more than ready to help you Mrs. Adam. This is a reason why I have always asseverated that marriage is designed only for Christians. Amen.

The woman cannot take the role of the man, in the marriage. It is tantamount to a coup d’état. It takes the family back to the evil machination of satanic intrusion. Jesus, as we all know, is a man. HIS human representation in that family is the husband. It says, “submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.”  The adverb ‘as’ is: hos (hoce) meaning: ‘which how, i.e. in that manner (very variously used, as follows).’ As the Church submits, spiritually, to Christ, so is she to submit to her own husband’s decisions.

love 2

I am yet to come across a man who will raise the whip to serve some painful punitive lashes upon himself for doing a wrong thing. I, therefore, find it difficult to understand why the husband will deem it fit to hit his wife, no matter how mildly soft the blow is delivered. You cannot even put her under any harsh verbal or mental attack. Help her maintain a psychological appositeness. Jesus, your archetype, is constantly doing everything possible to protect and to comfort us. “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you” [John 14:18]. ‘Comfortless’ is  orphanos (or-fan-os’) ‘bereaved (“orphan”), that is, parentless.’

A dereliction of duty, therefore, is what it amounts to when the husband refuses or decides not to love his wife. The husband must stand in the stead of Jesus, who was coming to the garden every cool of the evening, in His preincarnate manifestation as the LORD God, presiding over the Church services in Eden. The scripture teaches: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” [Matthew 18:20]. Marriage constituted the first Church on earth. As long as the pristine Church continued to live by the dictates of her Lord and Head everything went on well.

1372004275_Forbidden fruit (always the best)

…for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die [Gen 2:17].

 (…continued from part two…)

*3*            An ungodly humanistic perception accounts for Genesis 3:6 “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.” It was a personal decision, outside God’s protocol, that destroyed not only their marriage but the entire globe. They saw what God was not seeing (blasphemy!) They thought what the good Lord did not harbour in His divine mind; and they made a pollutive contact with a cursed thing.

It was not the eating per se, it was actually the disobedience that killed them. Being the first human criminal, the woman, according to spiritual reality, had assumed a certain superiority over her husband. That pleased Lucifer, the tempter. Conjugality had received satanic blow, giving it another construction. But I thank God for doing something. The LORD put it into the man to rename his wife. Genesis 3:20, “And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.” The namer is the owner of the entity. The husband got back his headship role.

The woman, God’s daughter, stood in absolute support of the marriage that God instituted. She refused to follow Lucifer and the great city eastern of Eden. God’s marital business had come to stay. The original couple lived till death did them part, akin to eternity of it. Amen.

The Bride must come, in submission to the call!

The maintenance of a healthy conjugal relationship stands on two limbs: submission and love. Ephesians 5:22, “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.” Ephesians 5:25, “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;” The phrase ‘submit yourselves’ is, in the Greek, hupotassō (hoop-ot-as’-so) ‘to subordinate; reflexively to obey.’ Hupotassō comes from hupo (hoop-o’) ‘by, under,’ and tassō (tas’-so) ‘to arrange in an orderly manner, that is, assign or dispose (to a certain position or lot).’ From these definitions, the divine conjugal expectation is to see the woman doing a packaging of herself, then, place it under the subjection of her husband.

This didacticism, coming from a man, like me, will probably raise an air of chauvinistic satiation. I did not write the Bible. It looks demeaning to women’s liberation oriented person. It is apropos to bring the woman to this refining subjection. As the first to make an ungodly entrance into sinfulness, she acquired an uncanny procacious disposition. Technically, she gained the role of her husband’s boss, as far as Lucifer’s evil kingdom is concerned. In God’s kingdom, the wife is the follower of her husband. Not the vice versa.

‘Love’ is the Greek agapaō (ag-ap-ah’-o) ‘to love (in a social or moral sense).’ Agapaō is the verbal construction of the famous agapē (ag-ah’-pay) kind of love. Agapē is defined by one man of God as: “A love called out of the heart of a lover on account of the value he has placed on the object of his love.” The love of the husband towards his wife is that of sheer commitment. Love is not a feeling. It is a committed state of being.

A long time ago when I heard Pastor W. F. Kumuyi of Deeper Life Christian Church, taught that: “even if your wife is a witch, you must love your wife,” I shook my head with a vigorous objection, followed by a resounding, “No!! How can?” Now that I have known the Bible so well, I do agree, one hundred and fifty percent, with Pastor Kumuyi. The sons of the man of the Eden Garden have every reason to journey into a reminiscing of the woman’s plunging of mankind into sin. He is very likely to think that a love commitment to this wife could derail him.

The daughter of Eve, having been regenerated, is expected to adhere, strictly to God’s protocol, the Bible, the same way God expected the woman of Eden to remember the briefing HE gave to her as HE walked with her to Adam, the man. To the wife I counsel, “Submit to the man, your husband. Even if his instructions sound stupid, just agree with him. After you have done your commanded submission, and you think he is wrong, in fact if he happens to be truly wrong, as far as he has not told or ask you to do what is scripturally evil, go to Jesus, talk to Him, He knows what to do.” The king’s heart,” as the Bible reveals in Proverbs 21:1, is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

At the entrance of the temple is the kalumma (2Corinthians 3:13-14), separating the Holy place from the outer court, and at door of the Holy of Holies is the katapetasma (kat-ap-et’-as-mah): ‘something spread thoroughly, that is, (specifically) the door screen (to the Most Holy Place) in the Jewish Temple’. The Church is a woman, therefore, the temple must veil her Head: God.

I remember when I first joined Household of God Church and I needed clarification on this scriptural issue. I approached one of the ushers, Brother Mike Igbokwe (now an SAN –Senior Advocate of Nigeria). His wife was in a hurry to go home after church service, but the man said, “I need to show him the scripture”. The SAN relieved me with verse 16, “But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God”. Who are the ‘we’, are they not the apostles, on whose shoulders lay the teaching of God’s word? In fact, even the Church of the Living God has no custom of head scarf in worship of Jehovah. But verse 10, “For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels”, continued to give me sleepless nights until the Pastor, Reverend Chris Okotie explained that the angels come to our homes on errands. They, the angels, understand authority and would not be pleased to see wives not showing proper respect to husbands. No wonder Rev. Chris Okotie would always say, “After all you do not see me on Tina’s head”, when explaining this issue. The truth about the reason why I can teach this topic is because I have sat down to study it thoroughly. The word ‘power’ is exousia, ‘a delegated authority, a right’; which is given by the husband, the head of the family. Do we not expect children in a family set up? Why does the word of God not say, “The head of the child(ren) is the gunē “, after all she nursed both their gestation and the eventual parturition? It is because God sees only one head of the Christian family. Why? There is only one Husband (authority), one Christ (Saviour) and one God (The Father) and of course, one Energizing Comforter (the Holy Spirit). Selah.

One of the six garments God Himself designed for priests included the mitre (Exodus 28:4; Exodus 39:28 & Leviticus 8:9), which is a head covering. Aaron and his Levitical children did marry, hence, husbands. Why would God, in His fashion consciousness, design a priestly robe that would be contrary to His Pauline inspired words of, “Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head”? We should not be forgetful of the fact that God does not support half measures. He operates with an uncompromising standard of principles. No excuses are allowed in the things of God. The reason for this is too crystal clear: God speaks eternal words. They never go archaic: always in fashionable season.

Mary Magdalene did kiss the Lord’s feet and wiped the flowing tears not with her flowing robe but her very hair (methinks the hair of a woman is to be tucked away from seeing eyes? -a la Deeper Life Bible Church of Pastor W.F. Kumuyi). This scenario is a perfect illustration of the Church in a lavish appreciation and worship of her Head. Mary was completely dead to sin, a walking cadaver, before Jesus brought her to life (John 3:16). She kept herself behind – an indication of a humble servant. She bent low in total worship. She kissed her Lord as in, “Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little” (Psalm 2:12); all because she had rather kissed the Lord Jesus and not Baal (Job 31:27; 1Kings 19:18). Still in the spirit of worship she wiped the wetness with her long free flowing hair (which she had hitherto used to enhance her prostitution business!). She was no longer the morally loose Mary, so, we cannot argue that she was being her normal laxity. Trust the, always firm, Lord Jesus who would not waste any time in telling her to put her hair in the proper tucked away religious principle. She, as a type of Christian, understands Song of Solomon 5:13, “His cheeks are as a bed of spices, as sweet flowers: his lips like lilies, dropping sweet smelling myrrh”; see also Song of Solomon 5:5 and Ephesians 5:2, which reads, “And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour”. This woman, prophetically, anointed the Lord for His eventual burial; and all the while she had her conspicuous long beautiful hair flowing freely! Selah!

In conclusion, it is apropos to appreciate the fact that God sits majestically in heaven and has perfect headship control of all things. Whatever He tells man to do is what He has already established and superintends spiritually. Nothing, therefore, can obviate the verity of His visionary institutions. The reason why we echo or put His word into physical demonstration is to adumbrate His eventual stand. The only way to serve the spiritual purpose of Divinity is to establish a concrete mundane version of that reality. Agreeing with God is tantamount to walking with Him like we see of Enoch, Abraham, Paul, David, Moses etc. There is no way any one will walk with the Lord and will not be rewarded by God in a beautifully handsome way. The word ‘walk’ in Hebrew is halak which translates ‘lifestyle’. Dogmatic insistence on the physical covering of a female’s head in worship can only be borne out of a ritualistic performance of religiosity. At what point in every woman’s life is she not in God’s presence? Is it when she is in the toilet or the bathroom or sleeping in bed? Should she not be wearing scarf every second, and permanently? The head-covering of 1Corinthians is a spiritual matter. It is a family matter, intimating the wife with her subjection to her head i.e. the husband. It is about headship. The Corinthians, like many Easterners, were customarily head-covering people. Paul saw absolutely nothing wrong with the tradition. “There is a spiritual dimension to this head-covering custom that I’ll love to intimate you with”, was Paul’s reason for this teaching. There was a kalumma and especially a katapetasma to cover God’s presence so that worshippers would not look on the LORD with disrespect. Worshippers are the Christians, espoused to Christ, the same way the wife is married to her head i.e. husband.

“But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God” [1Corinthians 11:3]. Here we have four persons mentioned. Two of them are in heaven and the other earthly two typify the celestial order. Three of them have heads (?) The woman is head of no one while God has no head. Right? Logically speaking, has each of them a physical head or not? We see women and men everyday, all around us, having heads on their necks. Jesus had His head crowned with thorns (John 19:2). The Everlasting Father, seated on the throne, in the Book of Revelation chapters 4 & 5, is not headless when juxtaposed with, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:” of Genesis 1:26.

If you ask me to give 1Corinthians 11:3-16 a title or a subhead it will not be ‘head-covering’, it is ‘headship’. It is for this reason I see the whole exegesis as: A spiritual phenomenon, couched in abstraction. Spiritual in the sense that headship is subjective; phenomenal: for it objectively characterizes normal occurrence. It is couched in the holy writ, and abstract because anything abstract needs careful study for an apprehension. Headship, as we know, is not visible to ocular experience. Verse three holds the key to the proper understanding of the entire teaching. Most of our Bible teachers insist that this teaching is all about the physical covering of the head of the female Christian in Church, prophesying or at prayer. Let us see what the scripture is actually saying. The word ‘know’ is, eidō (i’-do): ‘to know, i.e. get knowledge of, come to understand, perceive’. It is an experiential knowledge. The thing is, if they already had the culture and the experience of covering their heads (for those who do not were viewed as loose women) why would Paul use the word eidō? It is simply that the interpretation of eidō, entails a process to understanding. ‘Head’ is kephalē (kef-al-ay’): ‘probably from the primary word κάπτω kaptō (in the sense of seizing); the head (as the part most readily taken hold of), literally or figuratively; chief, source, origin’. Is it because of this definition that we do not see the one to whom the woman is the head? The headship, as the source, is definitely a spiritual phenomenon.

‘Man’ in the Greek New Testament, has thirteen definitions. This one here is anēr (an’-ayr): ‘a man (properly as an individual male) fellow, husband, man, sir’. Anēr is the only ‘man’ of the 13 types defined as ‘husband’. Three Greek words: thēlus, eleutheros & gunē translate ‘woman’. Thēlus (thay’-loos): ‘1. of the female sex 2. a woman, a female’ [Origin: from thēlē — thay-lay — (the nipple); to suckle]. Eleutheros (el-yoo’-ther-os) means: ‘unrestrained (to go at pleasure), that is, (as a citizen) not a slave (whether freeborn or manumitted), or (generally) exempt (from obligation or liability)’. Gunē (goo-nay’) Thayer Definition: ‘1. a woman of any age, whether a virgin, or married, or a widow 2. a wife, of a betrothed woman’. Strong’s Definition: ‘a woman; specifically a wife’. Gunē, the only translation that means wife, is the ‘woman’ from verses 3-16. Every ‘man’ of those verses of 3-14 is none other than anēr. The two mundane persons out of the four entities of verse three are a couple. The one who should cover the head is not a ‘figure 8’ female, it is not a spinster but a married woman. The one she is expected to cover in a headgear happens to be not just any other man but her very own husband! Once, when I was at the home of my boyhood friend, and as his daughters made for the Church service, he called back the four years old, “You have not covered your head, the Lord expects you to”.

The said girl, for goodness’ sake is just a thēlus, not even an eleutheros not to mention, for her very tender age, gunē. If the woman is to cover her head, physically, as most churches teach, then she definitely has to take a good measurement of her husband before buying the material for the scarf. If the husband is her head then she has to wrap him up (head to toe)! Her head, Paul teaches by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, is the anēr, her husband. This is what most misleading exegesis refuse to see. 1Corinthians 11:4 reads, “Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head”. The ‘covered’ of this verse, it should interest you, is not a verb (a word of action) it is a preposition (which is a hooker of a subject to the object, grammatically, hence, implying a state of being). It is kata (kat-ah’): ‘down (in place or time), in varied relations (according to the case [genitive, dative or accusative] with which it is joined)’. Who is the man’s head? Is it not Christ? How does he dishonour Christ if not by refusing to acknowledge the headship of the head of the Christian family aka the Church and the dereliction of his (the husband) priestly duty? Most certainly it is the misrepresentation of Christ by the anēr that constitutes having his kephalē in the state of kata. This kephalē is not visible.

Verse 5 has ‘uncovered’ akatakaluptos (ak-at-ak-al’-oop-tos) meaning: ‘not covered, unveiled’. Akatakaluptos originates from the Greek, ‘a’ (a negative ‘not’) and katakaluptō (kat-ak-al-oop’-to): ‘to cover wholly, that is, veil’; which is a derivative of a compound of: kata and kaluptō (kal-oop’-to): ‘to cover up (literally or figuratively)’. Is this covering a spiritual act? Yes. Then let us journey into matters of spirituality. The word tabernacle was first used by God in Exodus which He told Moses to construct as he had been shown, in heaven. A ‘tabernacle’ called in Hebrew, mishkan (mish-kawn’) is: ‘a residence (including a shepherd’s hut, the lair of animals, figuratively the grave; also the Temple); specifically the Tabernacle (properly its wooden walls)’.                              (…to be continued…)
