Wisdom Is A Personage [1]

1)            God is said to have in His possession, wisdom, before creationism. Taken literally, does it not tend to infer that the Almighty went in search –to gain an acquisition— of wisdom to help Him in the perfection of the work of creativity? If the LORD God had to acquire wisdom to bolster His omniscience for a successful creation, does it not chime the bell of pellucidity that He never had wisdom before its acquisition? If He had to look for an enhancing tool, that tells the logicality of my reasoning faculty –hypothetically so— that what the LORD God looked for was placed there –where He found it— by a certain happenstance or another living entity. This will mean that wisdom is either older than the Creator or that the entity that placed wisdom where it was found is a contemporary of the Most High. It also means that wisdom knows the beginning of the Divinity, ergo, it is either older or boasts of coetaneous eld with the Creator.

The eighth chapter of the scriptural Book of Proverbs begins with, “Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?” ‘Wisdom’ is the Hebraic chokmâh (khok-maw’): ‘skill in: a) war b) administration; shrewdness and prudence in: a) religious affairs b) ethics.’ Can God be said to be looking for this skill and its attendant prudence? Nay: for these are actually His inherent attributes. Wisdom, in this chapter of the Solomonic Book of Proverbs, is personified. The distaff appropriation of ‘wisdom’ is apropos for the gentleness of reason and of the known maternal productivity. Since wisdom is hyponymical to learning and instructions couched in words, this personification should not be seen as an absurdity. It may not represent the gender of the true person but Scriptural couch can be allegoric. The Holy Spirit is described as a mother hen [Genesis 1:2] when Mosaic script says, “And the Spirit of God moved upon…..” where the ‘moved,’  râchaph (raw-khaf’) means: ‘to hover; to brood -mother hen over her eggs- by implication to be relaxed:’ The word ‘cry’ (of Proverbs 8:1) is qârâ’ (kaw-raw’): ‘to call, call out, recite, read, cry out, proclaim; encounter through the idea of accosting a person met.’

The Word is a Personage

Verses one to the fourth are intimations of the universality of her call and fame. Verses five to six give evidence of her existence. The 7th to the 9th speak of her Excellency. The nature of her persona is mentioned in the 10th to 14th verses. The intimacy of verses 15 to 17 is of the power wielded by wisdom. The display of her riches is found in verses 18 to 21. The 22nd verse speaks of the eternality of wisdom. In verse 32, ‘Wisdom’ is to be desired for the blessedness it brings.

The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old” [Pro. 8:22]. The exactitude of the time of His first movement cannot receive a measurement of mathematical account. It must be of eternity. Nothing had been brought into creation. Wisdom says that the Creator possessed Her in the beginning of creation. Whatever or whoever was or were with the Creator must of an ineluctability be eternal as well. 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” [John 1:1-4]. Reading Colossians chapter 2 from verse 1 makes it clear who the Subject of this verse is. “In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge;” reveals Colossians 2:3. Ask yourself, “Can a being of the creation of God be capable of having hidden in his being, ‘all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge?’” It is impossible! Why impossible? That being will be as knowledgeable as the Supreme Being Himself!

“I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was” [Proverbs 8:23]. Does the Scripture agree with this Christ’s externality of Solomonic revelation? The Old Testament profers the solution in Micah 5:2 “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” No entity of creation has an empiric tag of everlasting to his existence. When Jesus told His hearers, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me“ [John 5:39]; Prophet Micah and his vaticination happened to be one of those who, through the Holy Spirit’s inspiration, got mankind ready for the Incarnation of the Divinity. Is Jesus Christ truly eternal? He made an asseveration to the fact in John 8:58, “Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.”

Get born again. Say this simple prayer, believing it with all your heart. Say:

“Dear heavenly Father, I come to You now in the name of Jesus Christ. I believe in my heart that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sin. I believe that You raised Him from the dead. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and I receive Him now as my Lord and my Saviour. I give God all the glory. Amen!”
